“Singharaja” Rain Forest Excursion with very basic accommodation at the border of the forest

 

 

Day-01              Singharaja Rain Forest (HB)

 

Arrival at the Shingharaja gate entrance by noon

 

SINGHARAJA RAIN FOREST

This is an extension of the house of a very noble & humble world-renowned figure Mr. Martin Wijesinghe, who has done  immense service to the country and to the world by taking the lead in protecting this rain forest and getting it the recognition as a world heritage site. This great man has done many research work and studies on flora & fauna in the forest without any “conventional” education qualifications or any knowledge on languages other than his mother tongue.A plant has being named after him and  the Sri Lankan government has also bestowed him with a  presidential award as a recognition of his services . He also provides free accommodation for school children who are keen on studying flora & fauna in the forest.

 

Eco-Team (pvt) Ltd hires his property by paying a substantial amount as an encouragement and support to his dedicated work and facilitates clients by deploying our staff, to explore the forest.

 

SCHEDULE

·        Arrival at “Singharaja” gate office by noon

  • You will be trekking to a “lodge” bordering the forest, leaving your vehicle at the office premises.
  • Lunch at the camp site.
  • Leaving to visit the Information center at the Forest reserve.

 

 

 

  • Dinner & overnight stay at the dormitory or lodge.

 

Day-02              Singharaja Rain Forest (FB)

EXPLORE THE FOREST

Dense, Dark, Wet and mysterious, the 11187 Hectare “Singharaja” primeval forest is a rich treasure trove of nature with a great diversity of habitats and a vast repository of Sri Lanka’s endemic species found no where else in the world. Named as a world Heritage site in 1989, this lowland evergreen rain forest is steeped in deep legend and mystery.

The world “Sinharaja” means, Lion (Sinha) King (Raja) and the popular beliefs that the legendary origin of Sinhala people in Sri Lanka is that they are descendants of the union, the lion king who once lived in the forest and a princess.

 

SCHEDULE

  • Leaving to the forest with packed lunch, after Breakfast .
  • Arriving at the lodge around 7.00 pm after Forest exploration
  • Campfire & BBQ Dinner & overnight stay at the dormitory or lodge.

IMPORTANT FACTORS

 

  • Accommodation will be in a very basic, but clean lodge bordering the forest.

·        Attached toilet is available with hot & cold water. Mosquito nets / coils are available. Experienced cooks/stewards from River Garden Resort will serve freshly prepared food & beverages.

 

  • Clients should carry Personnel effects for Warm/Windy/Rainy conditions.
