TOUR ITINERARY

 

Day 1 -              Sigiriya

 

Arrival at Sigiriya.

 

NATURE TRAIL IN SIGIRIYA

Start the jungle / village trail to the camp at Thalkote Wewa. [Tank] This is about 5.2km long and takes about 3 hours. This trail goes through a few jungle patches / chain cultivations, paddy fields. The terrain is flat and easy for walking. You will observe the way of life of the villagers in this part of the country including the tree houses that they use to protect their crops from the Elephants.

 

SCHEDULE

  • Arrival at “Thalkote Wewa” after lunch at the camp site. 
  • Start on the nature trail.
  • Evening optional bathing at the lake or at leisure.
  • Dinner and over night stay at a fully serviced movable camp.

 

Day 2 –             Sigiriya Rock Fortress

 

A visit to the Sigiriya Rock Fortress with Packed lunch.

 

The ancient city of SIGIRIYA was designated a cultural World Heritage Site in 1982.  It is also proposed that the site should be named the eighth wonder of the world, indicating it is in the same league as other international wonders such as the Grand Canyon and Ancient Pyramids.  Translated as ‘Lion Rock’ into English, the name of the monument indicates the way in which visitors used to begin their final ascent to the top – through the open jaws and throat (‘giriya’) of a lion (‘sinha’).  Unfortunately, the only remains of this lion figure are the gigantic paws, sculpted into the side of the rock.  The topography of the area is flat except for the massive rock outcrop of the fortress itself (which rises an incredible 600 ft up from the green scrub jungle).  The unusual rock is particularly interesting due to its flat top (nearly an acre in size) that was used in its entirety to build King Kasyapa’s fortress complex, still evident by the presence of the extensive ruins.

 

SCHEDULE

  • Leaving the camp after breakfast in your vehicle to the Rock Fortress. 
  • Packed lunch will be provided.
  • After the climb back to the camp & at leisure in the evening
  • Campfire & BBQ dinner and over night stay at a fully serviced movable camp.

 

 

Day 3 – Departure

 

After breakfast leave to Colombo.

IMPORTANT FACTORS

 

·        The facilities at the campsite are basic and will include accommodation in camping tents (2 persons per tent), sleeping mattresses, sheets, pillows, torches, towels, soap and camping toilet facilities. Bottle water and other beverages will be provided as per request for extra cost.

·        Hot meals will be prepared by professional cooks.

·        Toilet facilities - toilet tent with running water while camping [Camping commodes]. You could also use the toilet facility at the lodge which is a few meters away. 

·        Personal effects for Warm/Windy/Rainy conditions should be carried by clients.

·        Insect repellent, Sunburn lotion etc. are recommended.
